Day 1: Writing a conclusion

Day 3: Writing a Glossary

Activity: Create a glossary. Pick words that your readers might not be familiar with and write their meanings.

Activity: Today you will be revising and editing. Please use the checklists provided.

Day 5: Writing a Good Copy
|
Activity: Today you will be writing your good copy. Don't forget that each section has its own page. Feel free to send a copy to me when you finish.

Week of June 1st - 5th |
This week we will take a look at informational texts. This will tie in with Science as well.

Day 1: What is an Informational Text?
|
|
|
Activity: Watch both videos and then choose a non-fiction book from home. You may also choose an online non-fiction text. Print off the Text Feature Scavenger Hunt below and check off as many text features as you can find.
|
Day 2: Choose a topic
|
|
Activity: Brainstorm topics you know a lot about, or a topic that you want to know a lot about (you can always research more information to add to your writing). Think about your audience and choose a topic that you are interested in and feel your audience will be interested in as well.
|
Day 3: Planning
|
|
Activity: Brainstorm some subtopics. What do you want to write about? What information do you want your readers to know?
|
Day 4: Writing an Introduction
|
|
Activity: Today you will be writing your introduction. You can use an interesting fact about your topic that might be surprising to your readers.
|
Day 5: Writing a Draft
|
|
Activity: Today you will be writing your draft. You can draw your own pictures or find pictures online to add to your draft.

Week of May 25th - 29th |
This week we will continue to work on our personal narratives.

Day 4 and 5: Writing Your Good Copy

Week of May 19th -May 22nd |
This week we will be working on personal narratives. A personal narrative is a story that you tell about something that happened in your life. This is something we do orally all the time.
|
Day 1: Brainstorming
|
|
Today you will be brainstorming ideas for your writing. We talk about "heart topics". Those are topics that mean a lot to you or evoke a lot of emotion. Perhaps it was a time when you were excited, frightened, sad, angry, happy. Those events tend to stand out in your mind, making it easier to write about.
Activity: Create a brainstorming organizer with at least 6 spaces (like the video shows). Brainstorm 6 events and draw a quick sketch. Choose one of those topics to write about. |
Day 2: Writing a Plan

Activity: Use the graphic organizer below to plan your writing.
|
Day 3: Writing an Introduction
|
|
Activity: Today you will be writing your introduction. You can use the same form as the one I posted for personal narratives. Try writing a few before you finalize your hook.
|
Day 4: Writing a Draft
|
|
Activity: Today you will be writing a draft of your story. Don't forget, only the important details should be included!
|
Week of May 11th - 15th |
This week we will doing a free write. Students will be able to write about whatever topic they want. They will need to follow the writing process (brainstorming, planning, drafting, introduction, body, conclusion, editing, revising and writing a good copy).

Week of May 4th - May 8th |
This week we will be finishing our persuasive writing text with our good copy. I will also give a smaller writing assignment.

Day 1 and 2: Writing a Good Copy
|
In the next two days you will be writing your good copy of your story. You should have 5 paragraphs (introductions, 3 main arguments, and conclusion). Make sure you reread what you have wrote in order to make sure you haven't left anything out. Feel free to send my pictures of your good copy when you are done! I can't wait to read them!

Day 3, 4 and 5
|
Today and for the next few days you will be working on a 3 paragraph (introduction, reasons, and conclusion) piece of persuasive writing. You will need to go through the writing process again from the beginning. Some topic examples are:

Week of April 27th - May 1st |
This week we will be adding a conclusion to your writing and working on editing and revising.

Week of April 20th-24th |
This week you will learn to write an introductory paragraph, as well as the body (main reasons) in your writing piece. You will need your graphic organizer with your ideas from last week.

Day 1:Writing for an Audience

Assignment: Watch the video and think about who your audience will be for the persuasive piece of writing you have begun brainstorming. Answer the questions in the file below.

Day 2:Writing an Introduction

Assignment: Watch the videos and then look at the examples of "hooks/lovely leads" in the file below. Then, choose 3 types of hooks and write a hook for your piece of writing.

Day 3:Writing an Introduction continued...

Activity: Today you will begin your introduction. I have outlined a checklist to make sure you include everything you need in order to create a strong introduction. I also added an example to help. :)

Day 4 & 5:Writing your Main Paragraphs

Assignment: Today and tomorrow you will be working on the body of your writing. This is the part with all of your ideas that will persuade your reader. I have attached an example and checklist to help you.

Day 2:Brainstorming

Today students will start to think of a topic they would like to write about. Brainstorming is an important part of the writing process. Below are some ideas. Pick one of the questions from the file below and fill out the word document (Would You Rather). Give 3 reasons why you chose it.

Day 3:Planning
|
|
Today students will start brainstorming our own ideas. They will need to choose something they would like to persuade. One idea I thought of was, "Why people should stay indoors while we fight Covid-19". That being said, students can choose whatever subject they would like. I added a graphic organizer that students can fill in with their ideas.

Day 4:Developing Your Reasons
|
|
Today we will choose 3 strong reasons from yesterday and brainstorm evidence to support each reason. I have added 3 more detailed graphic organizers. Feel free to choose the one you like best.
